🍂 DIY No-Sew Fabric Pumpkins

A Simple Fall Project You Can Make in an Afternoon

Fall is one of my favorite times to get creative. There is just something about warm colors, cozy fabrics, pumpkins, and handmade decorations that makes a home feel a little more special.

For today's B² Expressions Creative Corner, we're making adorable fabric pumpkins—and you don't even need a sewing machine!

Make one large pumpkin for a table centerpiece or create several different sizes and fabrics for a whole pumpkin patch.

✂️ What You'll Need

• Fabric in your favorite fall colors or patterns

• Polyester stuffing

• Scissors

• Needle and strong thread

• Hot glue gun and glue sticks

• Twine, ribbon, or raffia

• A small stick or cinnamon stick for the stem

• Faux leaves or greenery, if desired

• Buttons, lace, beads, or other embellishments (optional)

B² Tip: Don't feel like you have to buy new fabric. Old flannel shirts, sweaters, pillowcases, curtains, and leftover fabric scraps can make beautiful pumpkins!

🎃 Step 1: Choose Your Fabric

This is where you can really make the project your own.

For a traditional fall look, try orange, rust, cream, brown, mustard yellow, or plaid.

For something more elegant, try velvet in cream, sage green, burgundy, dusty blue, or deep gold.

You can even mix several styles together.

✂️ Step 2: Cut Your Fabric

Cut a large circle from your fabric.

Don't worry about making it absolutely perfect. Once the pumpkin is gathered and stuffed, small imperfections won't matter.

Try different circle sizes if you're making a group of pumpkins.

🪡 Step 3: Gather the Fabric

Thread your needle with a long piece of strong thread.

Using a simple running stitch, sew around the entire outside edge of your fabric circle about ½ inch from the edge.

Once you've gone all the way around, gently pull the thread.

The fabric will begin gathering together and forming a little pouch.

Don't close it yet!

☁️ Step 4: Stuff Your Pumpkin

Fill the fabric pouch with polyester stuffing.

For a soft, squishy pumpkin, don't pack it too tightly.

For a round, plump pumpkin, add a little more stuffing.

Once you're happy with the shape, pull your thread tightly to close the opening. Stitch across the opening several times and tie a secure knot.

🎃 Step 5: Give It a Pumpkin Shape

You can leave your pumpkin round, but adding sections makes it look much more realistic.

Take a long piece of strong thread or twine and wrap it around the pumpkin from top to bottom.

Pull it slightly tight so it creates an indentation.

Continue wrapping around different sections until you've created approximately 6–8 pumpkin sections.

Tie everything securely underneath.

Now you've got a pumpkin!

🌿 Step 6: Add the Stem

Cut a small piece of stick or use a cinnamon stick.

Place a little hot glue in the center of the pumpkin and press the stem into place.

Hold it for several seconds until secure.

And here's where the fun really begins...

Add raffia, curled twine, ribbon, lace, faux leaves, greenery, or even a pretty button around the stem.

✨ Make It Your Own

There really isn't a wrong way to decorate these.

Try:

• Buffalo plaid pumpkins for farmhouse décor

• Velvet pumpkins for an elegant look

• Denim pumpkins made from old jeans

• Flannel pumpkins made from an old shirt

• White and cream pumpkins for neutral décor

• Tiny pumpkins for place settings

• Large pumpkins for a fall centerpiece

You could even make pumpkins from fabric that has sentimental meaning—such as an old shirt belonging to someone special.

Those can make beautiful keepsakes.

💡 B² Creative Idea

Make three coordinating pumpkins in different sizes.

Place them together on a wooden tray with a candle, fall leaves, pinecones, and a small strand of fairy lights.

You've just created a beautiful handmade fall centerpiece without spending a fortune at a home décor store.

The thing I love most about crafting is that your project doesn't have to look exactly like mine—or anyone else's.

Change the fabric.

Add something unexpected.

Make it elegant. Make it rustic. Make it colorful. Make it completely ridiculous if that makes you happy.

Creativity doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.
